Our Story

Who are we and how did we get here?

Our Story

Our family of Sue, and daughters Rachel and Lizzy, took over The Garden Shop on 1st July 2014 adding a cafe to the existing shop. We previously ran a nursery supplying plants to a number of local garden centres (including this one) so we already knew Nick and Belinda from whom we purchased the Shop, and who helped immeasurably for the first few months.

Rachel has now moved on with her horticultural career and has completed a Level 3 RHS Diploma in Historic and Botanic Gardening and secured a full-time position with the National Trust at Hidecote Manor in the Cotswolds. If you are ever in that part of the world, a visit is well worth while!

We are all concious of our environmental impact, carbon footprint and understand our need to work sustainably. Just as important is how our business relates to the community and surroundings. Read more about that here.

The Barn

Our new barn extension means we are now able to provide a much wider selection of gardening and DIY sundries, garden machinery, together with food for wild birds, fish food, bulbs, seeds and carry-pack composts. Up until November 2018 the building was derelict and leaked terribly. However, we secured enough funding to enable the refurbishment and opened on 1st April 2019. Many of the original features have been retained, and the original stone walls left to reveal their beauty. Visit the barn.

The Garden Shop Range

We have a fantastic range of plants, seeds and bulbs, a range of composts, bird food, indoor and outdoor pots and containers plus tools, gloves and sundries and items for garden care like fertilisers and bird feed. We also stock a range of gifts and cards and if you want something you can’t see on our shelves please contact us as we have regular deliveries and our suppliers hold more stock than we do.

Come down and see us, you will receive a very warm welcome.
