The sometimes bewildering choice of pest and weed control and plant fertilisers and treatments that customers are faced with at garden centres can be reduced down to a relatively few actual chemicals and treatments, the rest of the shelf space is taken up by the different brands.

When the press, two or three years ago, made it appear that dozens of useful chemicals were being taken off the market, it was actually only a few (quite noxious and nasty they were too!). The rest of the numbers counted were just brand names, using the same chemical.

At The Garden Shop we stock the brands we consider the best for the job, and, at the same time we encourage the use of organic and semi organic methods of dealing with garden problems, i.e. liming the soil to discourage club root, cabbage collars to prevent cabbage root fly, fine mesh or enclosure to reduce carrot fly.

Although we care about the environment and organic methods, at the same time we understand that, to achieve some results, people will need and want to use chemicals. Therefore, we carry a varied selection of these chemicals too.
